I'm glad you made it to my blog. Your first assignment is to watch at least this first episode of the BBC documentary "The Century of The Self".
I'm sure you'll want to watch the other three after wards, but what I think is most important is that we see how we got into the mess here in the states that we are currently in here in 2011. Here is a fun anecdote:
I recently went on a trip to South Carolina. While there, I visited "Historic Beaufort", which was a cute little town that hadn't changed much since before the civil war. The Union army used it as a base, so it was saved from being burned. I went on a tour of one of the plantation mansions there. We were the only two people on the tour, and the tour guide asked us where we were from. When we said Philadelphia, he smiled real big. You see, he was from Buffalo, New York himself and, according to him, since we were all Northerners, he could give us the 'real tour'. Apparently southerners still get offended when certain things about the civil war are mentioned. How does this anecdote relate to this video? Well, since this documentary was made by the BBC, they didn't leave any unpleasantness out that might offend Americans.
It is difficult as human beings since we are emotional creatures, but to be able to separate your own emotions, hang ups, beliefs etc. and try to look at things as if from above is the only way to see the truth. Until next time everyone!
